Anesthesia providers work in a variety of  “team” relationships in a variety of service locations. Anesthesia billing is based on the tax number of the employing organization.

The team, consisting of anesthesiologists and CRNAs, is most frequently found in hospitals and outpatient surgery centers. If the MDs are in a practice group and the CRNAs are employees of the hospital or have their own practice group, each tax number files claims separately from the other. If the CRNAs and MDs are employees of the same group, all claims are filed under the group’s tax number.
